It is tough to reach out to an individual who has a drug issue even if he is someone you like. Typically, other family members and pals would slightly turn a blind eye hoping that the person would ultimately see the risk of drugs and stop using it. Addiction will never go away and rejecting the fact will only prevent the person from sincere gratitude of the problem and the repercussions.
Ways to Help an Addict
Technique — A compassionate and caring method is necessary instead of a harsh one. It should not be confrontational and aggressive. Be prepared that the person will always be defensive and hostile. Keep one’s fresh and maintain a loving atmosphere. Do not sound accusing and judgmental. However, you need to let the person understand that you know his/her issue. Usage Bargaining Power Where Possible — The more bargaining power there is, the better is the offer of help. However, this should not be seen as a form of hazard by the person with the drug issue. Instead, it is an option provided and not forced. Utilize a tone that reveals deep concern however firm.
